Venice sketchbook

My next book is set in Venice, so I had to do some research (oh poor me!) Here are a couple of the drawings I did there.

Fleabag in Julia Donaldson's top ten Children's Books

Julia Donaldson, the children's laureate, puts Fleabag amongst her top ten picture books in the Guardian this week. How amazing!

Some things children have sent me after my visit

Often, after a school visit, I am lucky enough to receive a lovely parcel with cards or drawings, or photos of work done by the children.

This Fleabag project was done at a school in Dundee after my visit. Isn't that wooly Fleabag fantastic?

Cragside School

Today I visited Cragside Primary School in Newcastle. What a lovely school, I was made really welcome, and the children were so enthusiastic. They did some amazing Fleabag drawings, and each one so different!

These were some drawings that the reception class children did of Fleabag on their whiteboards. So great, especially for such little children!

Beverley Literature Festival

At the Beverley Literature Festival we read The Night Iceberg, then made pop-up icebergs and populated them with penguins. The results were fantastic and the children were really eager to stand up and show each other what they had been doing.

'Helen's workshops have been truly inspirational for children and their parents. The workshops captured the magic of creating a story and characters and then bringing it all alive imaginatively. What was wonderful is that Helen's calm, clear instruction enabled everyone to actually 'learn' how to draw and to take a work away with them they could all be very proud of. Everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the workshops booked-up early. I couldn't recommend Helen more highly. She's also a joy to meet and work with.'

Abney and Teal

Have you seen Abney and Teal? It is wonderful. It has the wise philosophy of Moomins, the tinkly, plinky plonky tunes and warm voices of Bag Puss and the lovely hand made feel of Clangers. It is the best children's programme I have seen for years. When I saw the clip advertising it I was immediately hooked and when I saw the first episode and saw Joel Stewart credited at the end I was delighted, as I love his books.
